I decided to take the Corporate Director course because I felt that I needed practical advice from a trusted coach (Dr. Soaries) who was truly interested in seeing me win. Prior to completing the course, I was making a lot of connections to initiate discussions about my board seat search but not making much traction. I took advantage of working with the board resume consultant that Dr. Soaries recommended. By doing so, I improved my brand messaging so that it would be more focused. I eventually landed an advisory board position by asking a connection that I had previously overlooked about the composition of his organization. He didn’t have any posted openings, but did have a desire to expand the governance for his company. We had previously worked together on a project, so he was familiar with my skill set and work ethic. The opportunity was almost hiding in plain sight.
